Classroom Champions: McGregor’s Chase Lillard
MCGREGOR, Texas (KWTX) - McGregor senior Chase Lillard is a leader. This all-district football player and state qualifying power lifter makes sure his teammates are where they need to be when they need to be there. Waking up early to give his teammates rides to practice every day.
“I always wanted to be a leader,” said Lillard.
“I’ve been a leader here at McGregor and part of that is you’ve got to get the guys here. I’ve picked up two people this morning. I pick up normally one or two people every morning. I think there has been one day where I haven’t picked up anybody. Summer workouts I’ve gotten people out of bed. Picked people up. And we need guys here, and I just needed to step up to do it.”
Chase is also going above and beyond in the classroom. The future Texas A&M Aggie is ranked 8th in his class.
“When I saw what KWTX was looking for, I couldn’t think of anybody better within our program,” said McGregor Head Football Coach Quentin White.
“What encompasses [a] ‘Classroom Champion’. To me the classroom’s on the field, it’s in the actual classroom and it’s also out in the community. Chase is a rare young man who embodies all three of those things. Does well and excels at everything.”
But possibly the most impactful thing that Chase has done in his young life, is helping found Rhett Revolution.
“So, Rhett Revolution is a non-profit organization that helps the community,” said Lillard.
“We run the food pantry. Help grieving families. Run Kids Day which is an event basically for elementary kids. It’s a free event where they can go play, run, do whatever. Rhett Revolution started with; he was actually one of my good friends. He lived right across the street from me and died in an ATV accident. And so we created Rhett Revolution in his memory just to do good works around the community.”
A cause that will stay with Chase for the rest of his life.
“All the meetings are held at my house,” said Lillard.
“My parents are a part of it. My friends, like my parent’s friends, everybody, are all a part of it. So I’ll be a part of it the rest of my life.”
