LORENA, Texas (KWTX) - Hailey Jacob has always succeeded in academics. The Lorena senior has been first in her class for four years now.

“I’ve been it since the first semester of freshman year,” said Jacob.

“And I was a little surprised that I go it. But also I’ve worked really hard.”

Having accomplished almost all that she can academically, Jacob is now taking on a new challenge, taking up a leadership role on the Lorena volleyball team.

“Especially being the only senior, it just means like the team relies on me a lot,” said Jacob.

Jacob is also now involved in mock trial at Lorena. An activity that will hopefully come in handy as she wants to go to law school after attending Baylor to major in business. But it also has helped her speak up on her teams.

“It’s helped a lot,” said Jacob.

“It’s definitely gotten me to speak more in uncomfortable situations.”

Loren Losli, a first year head coach at Lorena appreciates Hailey for stepping into that leadership role.

“She puts in the work and I’ve just been really grateful to have her here and have that leadership, since it’s my first year here,” said Losli.

“So she’s helped me as much as I’ve helped her.”
