Classroom Champions: Cameron Yoe’s Allie Henson
CAMERON, Texas (KWTX) - It’s been a bittersweet week for senior volleyball captain Allie Henson. Her season campaign recently came to an end, but not after turning in over 750 career digs.
“My favorite part was definitely my stomach turning when I got a really crazy dig,” said Henson. “Everyone in the stands going ‘Oh my gosh!’”
Alongside being volleyball captain, Henson is also the cheer captain at Cameron Yoe, always rooting on the Yoemen.
“Allie is your dream student athlete,” said Henson’s teacher and volleyball coach Stephanie Hause. “She is so determined, she’s very coachable, and she’s at practice everyday and she does everything we ask her to do. I think the best quality of Allie, besides her hard work and her determination, is that she is her teammate’s biggest cheerleader. She is always saying something positive and picking them up. She’s definitely the glue of the team.”
Allie is also a member of the student council and serves as the National Honor Society president. She’s maintained a 4.85 GPA and is ranked fourth in her senior class.
“Definitely staying up until 3 a.m., procrastinating before a test when a paper is due,” said Henson. “And then ‘Oh, I have to go play a game.” I get my head on the game and then go back and start writing that paper again.”
“She talks about procrastination, but she doesn’t (procrastinate),” said Hause. “Everything is always there, on time, it’s perfect. And then she’s like ‘I’m gonna redo this, it’s not good enough.’”
Next fall, Allie plans to attend Mary Hardin-Baylor to become a nurse.
“I want to help people,” said. “I want to do a lot of research because there are a lot of things that I feel like have a cure that just haven’t been cured.”
“She’s gonna do remarkable things and she’s going to get into the nursing field and she’s always helping somebody here at school,” said Cameron Yoe head volleyball coach Kaylee Young. “I think that it’s the greatest profession for her to enter because she gets to carry on that leadership role and to help people.”
Congratulations to Allie Henson, you’re a Classroom Champion!
