Houston Outlasts Baylor FB in Season Finale
WACO, Texas (BAYLOR ATHLETICS) - Sawyer Robertson threw for 309 yards and freshman Joseph Dodds toted it 12 times for 61 yards and one score but Houston used a fourth-quarter, go-ahead drive to post a 31-24 win over Baylor football in the 2025 season finale, on Saturday morning at McLane Stadium.
Baylor (5-7, 3-6 Big 12 Conference) fell behind early 14-0 to Houston (9-3, 6-3 Big 12 Conference) but rallied to tie the game at 24-24 with eight minutes left.
The Cougars then embarked on a nearly seven-minute drive to regain the lead, 31-24. Baylor’s potential game-winning drive ended on the Houston 13-yard line as the Bears couldn’t punch it in from inside the red zone.
Robertson completed 23-of-46 passes for 309 yards and a TD, also rushing four times for 13 yards.
Over his 2025 season, Robertson threw for 31 TDs and 3,681 yards, completing 304-of-504 passes. In his BU career, Robertson threw for 7,616 yards with 61 TDs on 599-of-989 passes. He ranks fourth in BU history in career passing and TDs, and fourth in single-season TDs.
To open the fourth quarter, the Bears cut into the lead with a 50-yard drive that ended in the first career TD from Joseph Dodds. Robertson then carried it into the endzone for the two-point conversion to cut the lead to 24-17 with 12:19 left in regulation.
Baylor got off the field on the ensuing possession with a fourth-down stop, taking over with 10:13 left and trailing by a TD. The Bears ripped off 44 yards on five plays, with Robertson finding Cameron for a 31-yard scoring strike to even the game at 24-24 with 8:53 left.
Houston took over on its own 26 and marked 74 yards on 15 plays, taking nearly seven minutes off the clock, to take a 31-24 lead on a Dean Connors one-yard rush.
Baylor took over with 1:57 left and marked down the field, aided by a 48-yard grab from Prentice, pushing the football to the Houston 13-yard line. Four straight incompletions saw the Bears turn it over with 43 seconds left and Houston was able to earn a first down to put the game away.
