Classroom Champions: Jonesboro’s Braxton Dossey
JONESBORO, Texas (KWTX) - In May of 2024, a swimming pool accident left 17-year-old Braxton Dossey with a broken neck.
“Braxton told us he couldn’t feel his legs, he couldn’t move his arms,” said Braxton’s father and Jonesboro superintendent Matt Dossey. “He couldn’t feel anything.”
Fast forward to today, a year and a half later, the Jonesboro senior has miraculously been cleared to play both baseball and basketball this spring, making a near full recovery.
“Really just so grateful,” said Braxton. “There are no other words to describe it. I’m kind of speechless, still speechless and contemplating. I’m just so happy that I’m still able to do what I do because I love these guys and I love being around them.”
Braxton says it took months of therapy, prayer, and support. It all played a part in his healing.
“From my accident, everyone has rallied around me,” said Braxton. “So many prayers, so many cards, just people stopping by and just visiting with me. I didn’t express my appreciation well enough, but I’m just so grateful just for the community that supports me.”
Despite Braxton’s hardships, he’s maintained straight A’s and is ranked fourth in his senior class. After he graduates, he hopes to enroll in the TSTC aviation program to eventually become a pilot.
When people hear of Braxton’s story, he hopes his recovery is told by his faith and determination.
“It’s not an opportunity to show who I am, but more of an opportunity to show what you can do post a severe accident,” said Braxton. “It’s not the end of the world.”
Congratulations to Braxton Dossey, you’re a Classroom Champion!
