Classroom Champion Katherine Ortgies of Allen Academy
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion Katherine Ortgies.
The Allen Academy senior has a 4.53 grade point average and ranks 3rd in her class.
Katherine is a member of the National Honor Society and President of the Student Council.
She is also involved in Symphony Belle, the Aggieland Chapter of the United Way and is an Allen Academy School Ambassador.
“I love the idea of being able to help people help my community,” said classroom champion Katherine Ortgies. “I would say that my biggest inspiration is my parents because they motivate me. They raised me well. They’ve taught me to be respectful. They want me to be a contributor to society. A lot of the hard work that I do is for me, but also for them. I want to have a good future so that I can make them proud.”
“She’s an awesome young lady,” said history teacher Wendy Lee. “She is actively involved in the school. She is all in for Alan every day. But one of the things I love about her, probably more than anything else, is that she partners with every single teacher. She walks through life with, with just an elegance that is rare in this day and age.”
Athletically Katherine plays volleyall and golf where she has been the captain of both teams.
She has received first team All State honors in golf where she has finished in the top 10 in at the TAPPS State Golf Tournament all four years of her high school career.
While in volleyball she has received Second Team All State honors.
“The intangibles that she brings, you know, she has she’s always been, attentive to detail,” said head golf coach Glenn Finley. “She’s always had a great work ethic, you know, so those things that she brought with her in seventh grade, sixth grade that are carried her through to today, still work just as well today on the golf course as they were when she gets to college and goes on to med school. She’s quite resilient.”
Katherine plans on attending Texas A&M Univesity and majoring in public health. She wanted to become a doctor some day.
