Classroom Champions: Axtell’s Michigan Fetsch
AXTELL, Texas (KWTX) - Axtell senior Michigan Fetsch has always thought about things in the long run.
After she started on the varsity volleyball team as a freshman, Fetsch made a move that many questioned. As sophomore, she moved herself down to the junior varsity team to create a comradery and help lead the future of the program. It paid off, as this year’s team won their first district title in school history.
“It was a really hard decision,” said Fetsch. “Just like the pride of it, you don’t have crowd like everybody else does, you don’t have the clout. But just the people around me, my parents especially, telling me it’s gonna pay off and those leadership skills and being able to handle the spotlight. Those being able to pay off and now seeing the results of that, I’m really thankful for my parents pushing me to do that.”
“She did such a great job of leading the girls to get outside of their comfort zone,” said Axtell head volleyball coach Taryn Usher. “To just really lift them up to tell them ‘It’s gonna be hard, but it’s gonna be well worth it.’”
Everybody knows the name Michigan Fetsch around Axtell. Aside from being a selfless leader, Fetsch is ranked third in her senior class. She eventually wants to go into physical therapy and run her own practice.
“I just want to succeed, I just want to be a leader in general,” said Fetsch. “Leadership I feel like is just something that comes natural to me and I feel like I need to use that ability because not everyone has it just to lead people on the right track.”
Fetsch is still weighing out her college options. She may even play softball or volleyball at the next level. In her free time, Fetsch enjoys playing guitar and performing at venues across the Waco area.
I love rock, country, pop, just anything,” said Fetsch. “I really love Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, I love Christ Stapleton. I like to keep a nice variety, but Jimi Hendrix is probably my favorite vibe.”
Congratulations to Michigan Fetsch, you’re a Classroom Champion!
