Heath Lee Mynar, 48, was suspended after his arrest in November, just days short of his 20th anniversary with the Waco Police Department, was named in an indictment Tuesday charging assault family violence by occlusion.

He was arrested on Nov. 10, 2019 after officers responded to a disturbance call in South Waco, where they encountered Mynar and a woman arguing in the yard, police said at the time.

The woman told responding officers Mynar, who was off duty at the time of the incident, had assaulted her and they arrested him on her complaint.

Mynar was taken to the McLennan County Jail where he was booked and shortly thereafter posted bond and was released, police said.

Mynar joined the department in November 1999 and was commissioned the following April.

He worked for the sheriff's office as a jailer before he started the Waco police academy.

Mynar is a graduate of West High School and Howard Payne University and was a football standout at both schools.
