It’s another unusually warm start to the weekend. We will be on record watch for the heat both today and tomorrow with highs in the low 80s. The record high for Saturday is 85 (2005) and the record for Sunday is 85 (2021). Southerly winds pick up today, moisture from the Gulf will continue to move back in. That added humidity should keep highs a touch lower than yesterday — but not by much. Tonight stays warm too, with lows only falling into the low to mid-60s.Sunday is the final warm day before a big pattern change.

A very strong cold front will surge south through the area Sunday afternoon and evening. Once the front arrives, it will move fast. Expect a sharp wind shift with strong, gusty north winds. A few showers may develop right along the front, mainly in our eastern zones where the moisture in the air is a tad higher.

Behind that front, temperatures will drop fast. By Monday morning, temperatures are in the 30s, and the gusty winds will make it feel even colder with wind chills below freezing. Monday stays cold with highs only in the 40s.

Tuesday morning looks to be the coldest of the week, with lows dipping into the 20s. After that, we slowly warm things back up. Highs climb into the 50s Tuesday, 60s by Wednesday and Thursday, and that warming trend may carry into the first weekend of January — though there’s still some uncertainty on whether another cold front could arrive around that time.
