Winter is Coming... Again

Mother nature wants to pull a magic trick on us apparently. She calls it the disappearing heat trick, and it involves feels-like temperatures going from 80° to below 30° in just over 12 hours!

Another warm day in store for your Sunday with temperatures in the upper 70s and low 80s early in the afternoon, but this will be the last of the unseasonable warmth. By the late afternoon a cold front moving down from the north will reach HWY 22 and blast its way across Central Texas from there. Temperatures will plummet behind the cold front as winds gusting near or above 30 MPH will follow and bring much colder air down from the northern plains.

A few showers may pop up Sunday evening along the cold front but the rain is not the main impact at all. By Monday morning, temperatures will reach the upper 30s and with the strong winds still kicking out of the north, wind chills will reach down into the low 20s in some areas. The winds will slowly die down throughout the day on Monday but through the early afternoon we will likely still see gusts near 30 MPH.

Even with the north winds slowing down by Tuesday, frigid air will have already taken a hold as morning lows on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings reach down to near or below freezing. Winds will shift on Wednesday and temperatures will slowly warm up from there. On New Years Day we look to break back into the mid 60s and we will reach the 70s the following day. Another front looks poised to move through our area next weekend but as of now its impacts are expected to pale in comparison to tomorrow’s cold front.
