Hundreds flock to Mega Career Fair at Fort Hood, Texas
FORT HOOD, Texas (KWTX) - Transitioning out of the military can be a stressful, and even scary time for service members.
What’s next?
That’s what a lot of soldiers ask themselves when their time in uniform is coming to an end.
A Mega Career Fair like the one on post on June 17 may have the answers for some soldiers.
“It brings together about 180 employers from across the country and from various industries,” said Owen Alexander, Liaison Officer with Transition Assistance Program on Fort Hood. “So, soldiers and job seekers can meet recruiters and hiring managers.”
Soldiers like Sergeant Dajyne Duhon, who was glad she came.
“There were companies like Whole Foods, Goodwill, and a lot of Fortune 500 companies that I didn’t expect to be present, but I was able to make good connections, meaningful connections today,” said Sgt. Duhon.
One retired soldier came out to show those transitioning now that finding a job isn’t the only option.
“I retired and one of the things I did not have was an interest in owning my own business,” said Eric Stewart, Retired Soldier with Fortune FranBiz. “So, it took me about 6-years to realize that. So, I want these other service members to have the opportunity to have that and to see and know that it’s out there. That they can own their own business.”
For him, transitioning was hard, so he understands how these current soldiers are feeling.
“For me, if I had the opportunity that I’m presenting today, I would not have had that much stress and anxiety,” said Stewart.
The exact reason that brought Sgt. Duhon to the Mega Job Fair.
“It was actually quite alarming how many people were here, but you know what, it’s great that everybody is getting the help that they need,” said Sgt. Duhon.
Help finding your next mission in just about any industry you can think of.
Mega Career Fairs like this are held twice a year on post and the next takes place in January.
