Volunteers serve Christmas meals to homeless community in McLennan County
Multiple organizations provide warm food and conversation to those in need on Christmas Day
WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Volunteers across McLennan County spent Christmas morning serving meals to the homeless community, ensuring everyone had access to a warm meal during the holidays.
The Serving Outside the Walls Ministry set up under I-35 with warm food for any visitor.
Pastor Charles Eubank said the ministry’s mission is to connect and help anyone with what they need, from warm clothes to conversation.
The pastor emphasized that volunteers serve food while also engaging in conversation with visitors, adding everyone deserves help regardless of their circumstances.
“Because no matter what people have gone through or what they have done they deserve love, all of us can be easily be in the spots that they are in no matter what we are doing it doesn’t take that much,” Eubank said.
The Salvation Army continued its decades-long tradition of serving Christmas lunch, giving each visitor a gift on their way out this year.
Volunteer David Haight said taking time to connect with visitors can help them now and in their future.
“It’s about discipleship, it’s about helping them navigate their resources because we are all connected and maybe there’s something we can help them with and down the road it could be reversed,” Haight said.
