‘We’re ready’: Fort Hood soldiers to compete for title belt at final ‘Fort Hood Fight Night’ of the year
FORT HOOD, Texas (KWTX) - Soldiers are once again hitting the ring for last Fort Hood Fight Night of 2025.
On December 12th soldiers will go head-to-head in the boxing ring for the third time this year but this time it’s all on the line.
“It’s the Championship,” said Cpt Yamill Acevedo who fought in June but now helps train the fighters. “So, the idea is, the winners from the first Fight Night that happened in June and the second one that happened in September, they come and meet and fight for the Championship Belt.”
It’s the first time in more than 15 years that anyone has held that title since the installation stopped the event in 2009.
Having it back has brought a new boost of energy for those involved.
“I actually fought in the first Fight Night and coming out the tunnel, jitters definitely hit,” said Cpt Acevedo. “I didn’t expect it to be this size. I had family come and they were texting me. They were like, this is packed, and I didn’t believe it until I came out. So, just seeing all those people, this is something good.”
The massive event has grown each time and months of preparation has lead to now, and not just logistically speaking.
“Preparation for the soldiers,” said Cpt Acevedo. “The number one thing is safety. We want the soldiers to be safe, all the fighters to be safe.”
That said, they are still warriors competing for the crown, so they need to be ready.
“Be mentally, emotionally, and physically ready,” said Cpt Acevedo. “Obviously training, we train 6 times a week. Whether it’s hitting the bags, getting in the ring and actually and being comfortable in the ring, going to the stadium and doing cardio or in the pool.”
As a former fighter and coach, he has a message for the fighters.
“I’m proud of you,” said Cpt Acevedo. “You got my respect for stepping in that ring no matter what anyone else says. Win, lose, or draw, you got my respect and you got the respect of the other coaches.”
Fight night is this Friday and the action kicks off at 6:30pm.
If you can’t make it down to Abrams Physical Fitness Center on Fort Hood to catch the fights in person, just tune into the CW because these fights are being broadcast live.
