(InvestigateTV) — A North Carolina woman discovered her routine breast cancer screening cost $6,000 compared to $650 for the identical procedure in Alabama, despite having the same insurance coverage and receiving prior authorization for both tests.

In this episode of InvestigateTV+, we examine:

  • A woman’s MRI costs jump $5,400 when moving states due to hospital facility fees
  • How an Arizona patient was unknowingly signed up for a medical credit card instead of a payment plan
  • A2 milk offers a dairy alternative for people with lactose intolerance issues

$600 to $6,000: MRI cost skyrockets for woman with high cancer risk after move

Like many women at high risk for cancer, Kelli Reardon relies on advanced MRI screening for early detection.

Not only did her mother die of breast cancer at age 48, but Reardon also has dense breast tissue, which makes it harder to detect a growth through a mammogram.

While most insurance companies fully cover the cost of a mammogram, they don’t when a woman needs an MRI.

Arizona teacher ‘infuriated’ by medical credit card pitched as payment plan

Kerry Morgan thought she was setting up a simple payment plan for her emergency room visit. Instead, she discovered she had been enrolled in a medical credit card that damaged her credit score and delayed her home-buying plans.

Morgan’s ordeal began in January when she visited the emergency room and received a bill for more than $700. When she asked about payment options, hospital staff offered what appeared to be a straightforward solution.

“They said it was 700 and something dollars, and I said well I don’t have that. Can I make, can I be on a payment plan? They said sure. Let me take a look. They came back with 30 a month and I said ok perfect. And they said you should get an email,” Morgan said.

How this creamery produces ‘A2’ milk for those suffering from dairy intolerance

As plant-based milk alternatives continue to surge in popularity, a North Carolina dairy farm is offering lactose-sensitive consumers a way to return to traditional dairy that may be easier to digest.

Riverbend Farm has been producing A2 milk for the past eight years, using more than 200 Jersey cows that naturally produce this specialty protein.

The farm, which opened in 1997 with a creamery built in 2021, processes about 2,000 gallons of milk twice weekly.

Meet the brains behind ‘Buddy Pal Games’

In a world where screens dominate entertainment, a group of brothers and their friends are determined to bring back face-to-face fun through their growing board game company, Buddy Pal Games.

Kenny Smith prioritizes playtime these days with his brothers, friends and a growing group of board game enthusiasts who gather regularly to test new creations and enjoy old favorites.

“Camaraderie, I think, is the number one thing,” Kenny said.

“Setting aside our differences, some friendly banter, right? Some friendly competition. But, it’s just... let’s leave the world problems behind for a while. That’s what we wanna do.”
