(InvestigateTV) — Wandering is a frightening reality for caregivers and a dangerous behavior for vulnerable adults with cognitive impairments.

When someone with dementia becomes lost or confused about their location, law enforcement officers often play a crucial role in finding them safely.

But when 61-year-old George Henderson wandered from his Tennessee home in December 2024, what should have been a rescue turned into a traumatic arrest that left him facing multiple felony charges and his family seeking justice.

Henderson, who has late-stage Alzheimer’s disease with the cognitive capacity of a four or five-year-old, has no memory of what happened that December night.

Our investigators examine this case and the solutions offered to provide training for situations like these for first responders.
