Expect record-warm temperatures Wednesday… And possibly Thursday too
While it was warm across Central Texas today, we escaped from seeing a new record high thankfully… But that’ll quickly change as we head into Wednesday as chances for record warmth are looking very favorable. Overnight we’re expecting quiet conditions to continue once again. We could see some morning clouds and even some patchy fog east of I-35 and everyone will be able to notice the warmer start to the day. It just won’t feel as crisp outside Wednesday morning as temperatures will be down around the low to mid 60s area-wide. There’s plenty of sunshine in store for the day tomorrow and with a south wind stuck in place, we’re looking at a good chance to see a new record high for the day. The current record high for October 23rd is 89° set back in 2022… Right now, we’re forecasting most in Central Texas to see highs around 89° to 91° for tomorrow afternoon. Wednesday may not be the only day where we could see a new record high this week. Temperatures are not forecast to cool down much heading into Thursday, so we’re keeping a close eye on that record, which is 91° set back in 1992.
What’s bringing us this record warmth is a strengthening area of high-pressure that’s building in from the south. Towards the weekend, that ridge of high-pressure will start to push westward and allow our temperatures to cool off, but only by a few degrees… We’re still expecting the above normal heat to continue through the weekend and even into the final few days of October next week. We should see highs drop back down into the mid 80s to around 90° starting Friday through Tuesday of next week. That ridge of high-pressure will also keep rain out of the forecast for the time being… So overall, our weather will remain quiet, so you’ll have time to get outdoors this weekend, but it’ll feel very warm for the end of October, we’re talking around 10° to 15° warmer than normal!
Our long range forecast models are hinting at a possible storm system moving in from the west coast as we get closer to Halloween. Right now, it looks like we could maybe see some rain closer to the holiday and also see a drop in our temperatures, but the strength of that system and if it truly brings us more “normal” temperatures and beneficial rainfall is still up in the air, and it’s still a little too far away to say we’re 100% confident on a major weather pattern change moving in before the month is over. Models are not in great agreement with rainfall and how cool our temperatures could get, but it looks like we could see some rain possibly move in any time from Wednesday towards the end of next week with temperatures dropping back down into the low 80s. Now, depending on the timing of that system and if it makes it this far south, will dictate which day/days have the better chance for rain and also how cool we’ll get… But for now, prepare for warmer than normal conditions and no rainfall for the majority of the rest of the month. We’ll keep you updated over the coming days so you can plan out your Halloween festivities accordingly.
