Strong Cold Front Will Bring Gusty Winds and Cold Air Sunday and Monday
Freezing temperatures expected Monday morning
A cold front with a very strong surface high pressure behind it will move through Central Texas this evening. We may see a few spotty showers behind it and we will definitely see a lot of cloud cover, but the more drastic changes that this front will bring are very cold air and strong winds.
Winds will be howling out of the north behind this cold front. Overnight tonight and into Sunday morning we could see gusts up to around 30-35 MPH. Much colder air will be brough in by these winds leading to afternoon highs on Sunday that may not get out of the 40s. Wind chill will be a factor through out much of Sunday as the colder air and high winds will combine to make it feel much colder than it actually is outside.
By Sunday night the winds will have died down and actually will switch directions slowly through the night to coming out of the south, but the strong north winds will have done their damage. Temperatures will be down below freezing Monday morning with some areas getting as low as around 25°. Luckily light winds will not create much of a wind chill factor but that would just be throwing water on a grease fire anyway. With the temperatures that we will see Monday morning you will need to drip faucets to keep water moving in exposed pipes as these could freeze up and become damaged by the cold.
Luckily our cold spell will only last through Monday as we will warm up rapidly afterward. Highs will be back in the 70s on Wednesday and are looking to stay that way into the following week. A weak cold front is expected to move through late next week but no rain chances or significant temperature drop are expected, as much warmer than average temperatures will stick around for a while.
