The recorded high today at the Waco Regional Airport was 78° which puts this Christmas Day in a 4-way tie for third place on the all time warmest list. This stretch of warm weather has lasted a long time and it isn’t quite done yet!

If you thought Christmas Eve and Christmas Day were warm, you ain’t seen nothing yet. Tomorrow looks to be the warmest day of this hot streak with one final chance to set a new daily high record. But this heat will come to an end this weekend, and forecast models are trending toward an even more drastic change than was expected even yesterday.

Friday highs will be getting up into the mid 80s across Central Texas. The record high is at 84° and the forecasted high is just one degree shy of that so any small change could lead to us matching or breaking that record. Temperature will fall slowly through Saturday and much of Sunday before a cold front swings through and changes us from shorts and t-shirt weather, to beanies and jackets.

This cold front will shoot down from the north and northwest Sunday evening and may bring us a few showers along with it late Sunday into early Monday. The rain will not be the issue with this cold front however, the issue is… well, the cold. Monday’s highs will only get into the mid-upper 40s and Tuesday morning is looking to be absolutely frigid with lows down below 30°. Tuesday doesn’t look much better, only getting to around 50° in the afternoon and Wednesday morning may be below freezing once again. Our temperatures will slowly warm up from there but the highest we look to get is in the mid 60s by New Years.
