The last of the showers and thunderstorms is exiting Central Texas to the south this evening. The Flood Watch that was previously in effect for much of the area has been allowed to expire. Rain chances with temperatures in the mid 80’s will return for Labor Day, but the rain showers may not be as widespread as what we saw in Central Texas today.

Rain chances remain at about 20% to 30% going into the holiday tomorrow, so some Central Texans might want to keep the umbrella on hand. Good news is, the rain showers will be very hit or miss, so not everyone will see rain (which hopefully means any outdoor Labor Day festivities shouldn’t be affected much).

Over the next week, a few more isolated rain opportunities can’t be ruled out, but the big story is the temperatures! Highs will hover in the upper 80’s and lower 90’s, but the morning lows are expected to mainly stay in the upper 60’s. It is only a slight cooldown, but a cooldown nonetheless. More rain opportunities might await Central Texas next weekend and into next week, but it is too early to determine exactly which day might feature the best chances. Long range model data has varied on which day will have rain showers, but the pattern is certainly favorable. Thus, we will keep a watchful eye on the rain chances next weekend and early next week, by issuing 20% chances on any given day. This will continue to be revised as more data becomes available. Temperatures are expected to dip into the 80’s once more by next week.

The tropics are mostly quiet as of now. There is one area of potential development that has a 30% chance in the next 7 days just off of the west coast of Africa. Again, it is too early to make any specific determinations in track or intensity, but it will be worth watching this wave over the next week or so.
