Outside of a few stray showers thanks to the return of Gulf moisture and warm temperatures, the weather across Central Texas this afternoon and for the next four or five days will be very summerlike! Afternoon highs in the 90’s and morning lows in the 70’s combined with partly cloudy skies and a 10% chance for isolated showers on Thursday and Friday might make you forget that Fall is just one week away. That’s right - the Autumnal Equinox (Astronomical Fall, aka the official start of the Fall season) is on Monday, September 22nd. Could Central Texas start seeing those fall-like weather conditions settle in along with the change of the season? Maybe!

While yes, the mostly stagnant weather pattern will continue for a few days, there are some early hints that another storm system could get going early next week. We are not anticipating anything severe, but rain chances next Monday (the 22nd and start of Fall) through next Wednesday (the 25th) are at 20% to 30% for any given day. Scattered showers could bring another inch or more to parts of Central Texas by the middle of next week. Keep in mind, this is still a week away, so these numbers and these rain chances will likely not get completely locked in to the forecast until the weekend - but it might be something to look forward to!

Unfortunately, the temperatures by next week may not look much different despite the rain chances. Long range model data is anticipating upper 80’s and lower 90’s by the Autumnal Equinox (again, that is Monday the 22nd). That is an almost negligible change compared to the mid 90’s we are experiencing right now and for the next few days, but at least it’s something!

The next tropical wave (Invest 92-L) has a 50% chance of development in the next 48 hours and a 90% chance in the next 7 days. It is too early to determine a track, but there could be a depression or even a tropical storm in this part of the Atlantic in the next 48 hours. If Invest 92-L takes a proper name, it will be Gabrielle.
