The cold front that is expected in Central Texas this weekend cannot make up its mind on when it wants to arrive. Will it be Friday? Will it be Saturday? After flipping back and forth A LOT in the last 48 hours, the latest weather data has once again landed on a Saturday evening arrival time for our next big cold front. This means Friday and most of the day Saturday will be spent on the warm side, with highs in the 70’s Friday and 60’s/70’s on Saturday. The evening cold front *SHOULD* ensure that the temperatures on Sunday don’t make it out of the upper 40’s/lower 50’s, with partly cloudy skies. The colder weather carries over into Monday to start the new workweek, and a small area of low pressure could generate a few scattered showers Tuesday into Wednesday.

Central Texas will reach the top of the temperature rollercoaster on Friday (the last day of Toys For Tots!) with highs mostly in the 70’s. Temperatures will fall into the 60’s Saturday ahead of a cold front that will bring much colder weather into early next week. This cold stretch will last from Sunday into Monday, but may not last much longer than that....warmer weather appears likely late next week again.

Outside of the large temperature changes Central Texas has been seeing, there is finally a glimmer of hope for some scattered rain on Tuesday. The front this weekend should open the door for an area of low pressure (known as a shortwave trough) to enter the southern great plains from the west. This could bring a small chance for showers on Tuesday...as indicated by our First Alert Futurecast model below.

Rain chances are not overly high, nor are we overly confident that this will last longer in future model runs...this is currently the only one keeping the rain in the forecast, but it is worth watching. This is just here to simply show the possibility of rain on Tuesday, NOT to give you a gurantee or get your hopes up.

We are keeping a 20% chance for rain on Tuesday ahead of much warmer weather late next week. If the warming trend continues, Central Texas could potentially see some near record temperatures by the end of the current forecast window (not this weekend, but next).
