Today’s forecast: copy/paste yesterday
higher heat builds in late next week
It’s another classic Central Texas summer day featuring: heat, humidity, and a low-end rain chance this afternoon. Get ready for a hot Sunday with daytime highs climbing into the low to mid-90s, with heat index values topping around 102. The triple-digit heat index values stick around through the July 4th weekend (at minimum). If you’re spending time outdoors, take extra precautions and stay hydrated.
Adding to the summer mix, Saharan dust is on its way across the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to arrive early next week. While it may lead to some hazy skies, it could also bring vibrant sunsets across the region. Air quality looks to be minimally impact, if at all.
Tropics Watch: No Threat to Texas
In the tropics, Tropical Depression Two has developed in the Bay of Campeche, just west of the Yucatán Peninsula. Forecast models project that it will strengthen into a Tropical Storm by early Sunday afternoon. The system is tracking toward eastern Mexico, where it may bring heavy rain and flooding. For Central Texas, there’s no threat — just something to keep an eye on from afar. If named, the storm will be called Barry.
Rain Chances Stay Low
Looking into next week, rain chances remain minimal. We’re keeping a slim 20% chance of isolated showers Monday through Thursday, but most of the region will stay dry. Any pop-up showers that do form will be few and far between — so consider yourself lucky if you catch one.
Stay cool, stay safe, and enjoy the (seasonably hot) week ahead!
