Yesterday’s weak, stalled front and nearly calm winds have set the stage for dense fog across Central Texas this morning. The thickest fog is along and south of the boundary, where a Dense Fog Advisory is in place through most of the morning.

Fog and low clouds will be slow to break today, and even once they do, changes are coming fast. A strong cold front moves in this evening and tonight, bringing another round of low clouds and a few pockets of light rain or drizzle. Behind the front, north winds will ramp up to 15 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph.

Temperatures will take a big hit overnight, dropping into the upper 20s and 30s — more than 30 degrees colder than this afternoon. Sunday morning will feel blustery and cold. Even with sunshine, highs Sunday only reach the 40s as the cold air hangs on. Winds will slowly ease during the day and go calm Sunday night.

Monday starts cold again, but don’t get used to it. A big warm-up kicks off early next week, with temperatures back above normal by Tuesday. We may see another fast-moving system late in the week, but moisture looks limited for now — so the most likely outcome is warm and dry conditions continuing.
