A true blast of Arctic air is settling in after last night’s cold front, and those gusty north winds are sticking around through the morning. A little patchy light rain or drizzle is possible in southern zones early on, but that shuts down quickly as drier air moves in. Between temps in the 20s and 30s and winds of 15 to 20 mph, it’s going to feel super cold out there, with wind chills in the 20s. Winds slowly ease during the day, and clouds will gradually clear from north to south. With clearing skies and lighter winds tonight, Monday morning is shaping up to be one of the coldest mornings so far this season.

As we head into Monday, winds aloft turn back out of the southeast, pulling moisture back in over that cold air at the surface. That sets the stage for widespread low clouds and mostly cloudy skies much of the day. Because of that, temperatures won’t rebound much — many spots will struggle to get out of the mid to upper 40s/low 50s.

Cloudy mornings stick around into Tuesday and Wednesday as moisture continues to build. By Tuesday night into Wednesday, we may finally see a few showers, and possibly an isolated thunderstorm, mainly across far southeastern areas. Those look like the only real rain chances for the week. The flip side is a quick warmup — temperatures surge well above average by Wednesday, with highs back into the 70s.

Another cold front arrives late Thursday or early Friday, but this one is much weaker. It’ll just knock temperatures back closer to seasonal levels before yet another warmup takes over heading into the end of the week.
