Scattered rain and some storms are possible Saturday with our next cold front
Did you get outside yesterday and enjoy the pleasant temperatures ushered in by the clouds? If you didn’t, you’ve missed your chance at comfortable weather for a few days. Don’t you worry, though, because Sunday is shaping up to be a SPECTACULAR day of weather after a cold front pushes through Saturday. Saturday’s front will help to drop temperatures, but we will have to keep a keen eye on the potential for scattered storms Saturday late morning and Saturday afternoon.

Today is the set up day for tomorrow’s storm chances and you’ll feel the changes as you head outside this morning. Instead of starting out crisp in the lower 60s, many of us are out the door in the mid-to-upper 60s with clear skies overhead. The extra warmth is because of humidity ahead of tomorrow’s cold front. The humidity will bleed away a bit during the course of the day, but the extra sunshine will boost temperatures back to near 90° this afternoon with heat index values approaching around 93°. Nearly everyone should remain rain free today, but there’s a chance for a stray shower near the I-45 corridor this afternoon. With a cold front on the way tomorrow, though, don’t expect much in the way of a temperature drop tonight! It won’t be terrible for Friday night football games, but kickoff temperatures in the lower 80s may only drop about four or five degrees during the course of the entire game!

As tomorrow’s cold front pushes toward us, we’ll kick off the weekend Saturday with morning temperatures in the low-to-mid 70s. Tomorrow’s cold front won’t arrive until the afternoon hours, but a pre-frontal wind shift will not only help to boost temperatures into the upper 80s and low-to-near mid-90s in the afternoon, but it could help to spark a few scattered showers and likely non-severe storms from roughly 10 AM to 1 PM east of I-35. This pre-frontal rain is not the main rain risk for Saturday. In fact, rain chances are now up to 40% with the highest chances coming near and especially east of I-35. Because of the big boost in temperatures ahead of the front and the humidity in place, there will be a chance for a stray strong storm or two Saturday afternoon. Gusty winds with maybe some up to quarter-size hail will be the main threat from any strong storms with a level 1 of 5 severe weather risk in place. Storm chances will likely not start until around 3 PM and stay near 40% through the remainder of the afternoon and into the early evening hours. Storms should either fizzle out or push out by 10 PM leaving us with some SPECTACULAR WEATHER Sunday!
Sunday is by and large the pick day of the weekend with morning temperatures still in the upper 50s and lower 60s thanks to the slow-ish arrival of the cold front, but you’ll know the front is here when the north winds increase overnight and into the day gusting as high as 25 MPH. Despite full sunshine, highs Sunday will only warm into the upper 70s and lower 80s! Yahoo! It’s a short-lived temperature drop, though. Even though we’re out the door Monday morning in the mid-50s, we’re surging up to near 90° in the afternoon as south winds return ahead of another cold front arriving Tuesday. We won’t have enough humidity for rain with Tuesday’s front, but it will help to drop temperatures back into the low-to-mid 80s. Morning temperatures after Tuesday’s front are no longer expected to drop into the mid-50s, but it’ll still be comfortable with upper 50s and low 60s out the door for the second half of next week. Another front may push through on Friday leading to another chance for some scattered rain Friday and into Saturday.
