A big drop in temperatures, a big increase in winds, cold weather season is here, y’all!!
Octoburn has lived up to it’s name this year. Without the rain that fell Friday and Saturday, October would otherwise be a completely dry month with exceptional heat! We have one more last gasp of rain possible Tuesday as a strong cold front pushes through. What this front lacks in the rain department, it’ll make up for in the temperature department. Break out the heavier winter coats, y’all!
Temperatures this morning are starting out in the upper 50s and lower 60s with partly to mostly cloudy skies overhead. Most of us won’t have an issue out the door with fog, but there will be some spots of localized dense fog this morning, especially west of I-35. Whatever fog forms to kick off the day will be out of here by mid-morning. Morning partial cloudiness will turn to sunshine this afternoon as highs settle in the low-to-mid 80s late-day. For cities and towns west of I-35, sunshine returns earlier in the day so temperatures may settle in the upper 80s! For cities and towns east of I-35, longer lasting morning clouds will keep temperatures in the upper 70s and lower 80s.
Monday’s weather will be ho-hum, but that’s not the case for Tuesday. A cold front is set to push through after sunrise meaning our temperatures should drop during the course of the day! We’re out the door Tuesday morning in the mid-to-upper 60s with even a few stray lower 70s under mostly cloudy skies. We’ll likely warm up into the mid-to-upper 70s early in the afternoon with a few showers and rumbles of thunder potentially forming near and east of I-35 as the cold front moves in. Rain chances are near 30% with the best chances showing up east of I-35. There’s a chance for a stray shower at any point in the day, but the best chances will be midday and into the afternoon as the front pushes through. As the front arrives, we should see a notable temperature drop! We’re ahead of the front in the 70s and lower 80s, but we’ll likely drop into the 60s and lower 70s before sunset! Tuesday’s front will usher in the coldest air (so far) of the cold weather season.
You’ll know the front is here when south winds Tuesday turn northerly and gust to near 30 MPH in the afternoon. Those north winds will actually increase Wednesday as another push of cooler air arrives! Gusts between 30 and 35 MPH Tuesday afternoon will likely gust to near 40 MPH in spots Wednesday afternoon. With the gusty north winds and with the colder air spilling in, you’ll want a jacket as you head out the door Wednesday morning! We’re out the door with temperatures in the upper 40s, but wind chills will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s. Even with sunshine, the gusty north winds Wednesday will only allow high temperatures to warm into the mid-60s.
Winds will go relatively calm Wednesday night and stay low through the remainder of the week. With clear skies and lower wind speeds, we’re going to head out the door Thursday and Friday morning in the lower 40s! We’re not quite at the temperatures to be concerned with frost, but it will for sure “feel” frost Thursday and Friday morning. Sunshine warms us into the mid-60s again Thursday and then into the upper 60s and lower 70s Friday. Don’t forget that it’s the time change weekend! Set your clocks BACKWARD one hour as you head to bed Saturday night. The clocks may be falling back, but we’re springing forward into unseasonably warm conditions for the majority of next week. There’s a potential cold front on the way late in the week, but expect a tame one with morning temperatures in the 50s turning to upper 70s and lower 80s late-day.
