COLD air surges into the country this weekend
Get ready for the coldest air of the cold weather season (so far)
Get ready, y’all! Central Texas’ weather is about to change for the colder! We’ve had occasional cold snaps over the last few weeks, but the upcoming cold snap ushers in the coldest air of the cold weather season so far! Although this strong cold front will send our temperatures tumbling, it’ll be short-lived push of colder air. Unfortunately too, we won’t see any rain from this storm system and precipitation changes remain out of the forecast through the middle of the month. Yet again, Central Texas is digging into a big rainfall deficit for the month and it’s looking unlikely that we’ll see anywhere close to an average amount of rain for the month or fall season.
Central Texas’ next cold front won’t push through until late tomorrow, so today’s weather will be about the same as it was yesterday. We’re kicking off the morning with temperatures in the mid-to-upper 50s. You may need a light jacket out the door this morning, but get ready to shed that jacket for shorts and a t-shirt! Temperatures this afternoon will warm up again into the low-to-mid 80s. It’ll be a touch warmer than yesterday and it’ll also be a bit breezy too with south winds gusting to near 20 MPH.
Tomorrow is when the first of two cold fronts pushes into the area and let me tell you, it’s going to be SUCH AN HUGE CHANGE IN OUR WEATHER MY GOSH. Does sarcasm translate well through the internet? Morning temperatures near 60° Friday will again warm up into the low-to-mid 80s thanks to an abundance of sunshine throughout the day. South winds will still gust to near 20 MPH, but that cold front is set to push in shortly after sunset. Instead of starting out in the upper 50s and lower 60s Saturday morning, we’ll instead start out in the mid-50s! Not only that, but we’re going to drop our high temperature from 85° Friday to 84° Saturday.
Saturday’s cold front (which realistically arrives overnight Saturday into Sunday) will be the money maker. The front won’t clear the area until just a bit before sunrise Sunday, so morning temperatures out the door will be in the mid-50s, but afternoon highs will only warm into the upper 50s and lower 60s! We’ll likely see less than a ten degree temperature difference from the morning to the afternoon thanks to strong north winds pulling cold air into Central Texas. Expect occasional gusts to near 30 MPH with early morning wind chills in the 40s staying in the 50s for much of the day.
The cold air spilling in gives us two chilly days. The coldest morning will be Monday morning as we’re out the door in the low-to-mid 30s with wind chills in the 20s for some! Even with full sunshine, highs will warm into the mid-to-upper 50s only which is over 10° below average for this time of the year. Veteran’s Day is the transition day. We’re kicking off the day cold and breezy with morning temperatures in the mid-to-upper 30s joined by wind chills in the upper 20s, but full sunshine will warm us back to near 70° (which is average). Veterans Day parades will be impacted by the cold and stout winds. Through about 10 AM, temperatures will only warm from the 30s into the 50s and the strong north breeze will keep the wind chills between 5° and 10° below the actual temperature, but at least it’ll turn a bit more pleasant late-day. Even warmer air pushes back in for the end of the work week and into the weekend with 80s set to return by Thursday.
