Did you enjoy Thanksgiving, y’all? Not only were we blessed with cool temperatures that made it feel like the holidays, but we had NO weather issues to contend with! A bit of weather whiplash is in the forecast. Believe it or not, high temperatures are about to jump into the mid-70s this weekend. Believe it or not, high temperatures are also about to plummet into the 40s this weekend too! Don’t you love cold fronts?

Tomorrow’s cold front will be a big’un and we’re gearing up for tomorrow’s front with some weather changes today. Expect mostly cloudy to overcast skies throughout the day today which caps high temperatures in the upper 50s and lower 60s. We’re also monitoring for nuisance sprinkles this afternoon too. Starting as early as about 1 PM, we may see a few drips and drabs here and there. We likely won’t have enough muster in the atmosphere for anything more than occasional light sprinkles or drizzle, but don’t be surprised if you run into that ugliness while you’re Black Friday shopping. As we push past sunset, the light sprinkles may increase a bit in coverage for the early evening hours with intensity increasing a bit during the overnight hours. Rain chances are up to 40% Friday night into Saturday morning as light rain showers move through from time-to-time before departing by daybreak. Although the overnight thunderstorm chance is very low, there’s a chance for a quick thunderstorm to form and potentially produce pea-to-dime size hail.

The potential for overnight hail stems largely from the time of year. In the cold weather season, it’s much easier for hail to form in thunderstorms, but it’s only the strongest thunderstorms that can produce large hail. Your hail lesson is brought to you by Saturday! As Saturday’s strong cold front pushes toward us, we’re expecting to see a few thunderstorms form in the afternoon hours. I’ve actually dropped the storm chances for Saturday a bit as we may struggle to see the lift for thunderstorms arrive before the cold front passes through. Still, it’s a 50% rain chance Saturday afternoon with the highest storm chances along and especially east of I-35. Overnight low temperatures fall into the low-to-mid 50s, but we’ll see sunrise temperatures near 60°. Morning clouds will give way to some afternoon sunshine and that’ll boost temperatures into the low-to-mid 70s. Unfortunately, the sunshine will bring cities and towns along and east of I-35 a chance for a strong storm or two. From roughly 3 PM to 10 PM, any thunderstorms that form with the cold front’s arrival could strengthen to contain up to half-dollar size hail with gusty winds possible too. While only the strongest storms may contain that large half-dollar hail, if you hear thunder, you’ll probably see some small hail fail. Saturday’s storm chances come to a close from north-to-south as a cold front blasts through.

Welcome to Decem-brrrrr! Well, almost. We’re kicking off the month of December COLD, but we’re closing November and meteorological autumn on Sunday COLD too. Expect temperatures overnight to tumble into the 30s by daybreak Sunday morning with lower 30s west of I-35 and upper 30s east of I-35. It’ll be another generally mostly cloudy day of weather, so high temperatures will only warm into the mid-40s! With gusty north winds throughout the day, morning wind chills in the 20s will only warm into the upper 30s by the end of the day. For the first day of meteorological winter, which is Monday, it’s going to be U-G-LY and for sure will have no alibi for being ugly. We’re still figuring out the details on timing, but we’re expecting a chance for scattered light rain during the course of the day. The morning hours are most favored for rain. Despite temperatures in the mid-to-upper 30s Monday morning, we are NOT expecting any wintry precipitation or icy roads. Could there be a sleet pellet or two mixed in? Sure! Will it do anything more than ping off your windshield? Nope!

Monday’s ugly day with cloudy skies, a bit of rain, and highs in the low-to-mid 40s will turn to a very cold morning Tuesday as cloudier skies dissipate Monday night. We’re out the door with upper 20s and lower 30s, but sunshine will finally return and we’ll warm back up to near 50° in the afternoon. We’re expecting to warm back into the lower 60s Wednesday with no more freezing morning temperatures in the forecast, but another storm system could help to bring us a bit more cloudiness and a bit more rain Thursday into Friday. Rain chances aren’t high, but we’ll see temperatures drop into the 50s Thursday and jump back into the 60s into next weekend.
