While Santa Claus may have brought you what you were looking for on Christmas Day, the atmosphere brought us one of the warmest Christmas Day highs of all-time! Although we didn’t break a high temperature record, Christmas 2025 ties with 1964, 1955, and 1951 for third place with a high of 78°. Christmas Day 2016 is in second place with a then record high of 79°. Top dog remains Christmas 2021 with a record high of 82°. Three out of the last ten Christmases have been hottest Christmases of all-time. Another day of record-nearing temperatures is back today, but a big cold front is lurking late this weekend.

Just like we’ve seen all week long, our morning temperatures are kicking off above the average high in the mostly low-to-mid 60s. There may be some fog west of Highway 281 and a few drips and drops east of I-35 where morning temperatures are closer to 70°, but that’ll quickly give way to sunshine a few hours after the sun comes up. South winds have ruled the roost for the last few days, but southwesterly winds may return late this afternoon and could propel our temperatures close to today’s record high of 84°. Cities and towns east of I-35 will be a bit cooler in the lower 80s, but mid-80s are expected along and west of I-35.

Our next cold front is set to arrive a bit after sunset Sunday, and the breeziness kicks up in advance of that front this weekend. South winds between 10 and 20 MPH will pull moisture in, potentially give us a touch of morning fog Saturday and Sunday morning, and allow for highs to settle in the upper 70s and lower 80s with partly-to-mostly cloudy skies overhead. We’re continuing to forecast morning temperatures above the average afternoon high, and we may actually be over five degrees above the average afternoon high to kick off each weekend day! Look, it’s not going to be an awful weekend of weather, but it’s a May-esque weekend instead of being an end of December weekend.

Sunday’s cold front is a big one! What it lacks in the rainfall department, it’ll make up for in the temperature change department! From roughly sunset Sunday to around midnight Monday, the front may kick up a few isolated showers and potentially even a few rumbles of thunder near and especially east of I-35. I have a feeling that the front won’t fill in with as much rain as we’re hoping for, so we’ll likely measure rain in hundredths-of-an-inch! We only need FIVE-HUNDREDTHS OF AN INCH of rain to reach our yearly average, and that may be difficult to come by since rainfall totals will likely be around or less than a tenth-inch. When the front blasts through, it will blast through with strong north winds. Winds Sunday night will gust between 30 and 40 MPH and will gust near 30 MPH throughout the day Monday. If you have any Christmas decorations outside your home, this weekend is the perfect weekend to take them in or tie them down so you’re not chasing after Santa Monday morning as you’re heading to work. Temperatures will drop from 81° Sunday afternoon to 38° Monday morning and will only climb back into the mid-to-upper 40s Monday afternoon thanks to mostly cloudy skies and those strong north winds. Wind chills will dip into the 20s early in the morning with those chills staying in the 30s all day long.

A cold start to the work week won’t be a cold end to the work week. We’re keeping the clouds around for most of the week with partly to mostly cloudy skies, but we’re expecting a warming trend to kick off Tuesday as south winds eventually return. It’ll be cold Tuesday morning with morning lows in the mid-to-upper 20s with afternoon highs settling near 50°. We’ll spend another morning near freezing on New Year’s Eve, but highs will rebound back into the lower 60s. Midnight temperatures New Year’s Night will be in the mid-40s with wind chills in the upper 30s, so make sure you grab the coat before you celebrate the end of the year! Thursday morning stays cold with morning lows in the mid-to-upper 30s, but afternoon highs return into the mid-to-upper 60s with highs near or above 70° expected Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
