DAYTON, Texas (KWTX) - Several monks, along with their escort driver, were injured in an accident during a ‘Walk For Peace’ journey in Dayton, Texas, along U.S. 90 on November 19, 2025.

The Walk For Peace team says that an accident occurred at around 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

“One of our monks who was injured in the incident is currently undergoing surgery. The remaining monks sustained minor injuries and, with resilience and determination, will continue the Walk For Peace journey as planned,” the Walk For Peace team said.

Local authorities and emergency responders quickly arrived on scene and the monks were taken to the nearest hospital.

“We understand the deep concern shared by supporters, communities, and individuals around the world. We are equally worried for the safety and well-being of the monks and are working closely with law enforcement and medical teams to gather accurate information,” the team said.

Out of respect for the monks and their families, the team says they will release more information after the hospital and medical professionals formally provide it.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude for the compassion, prayers, and well-wishes coming from across the globe. Your support brings great comfort to our community during this difficult time,” the team said.

Updates will be provided as soon as the information becomes available.
