McLennan Community College students participate in disaster simulation
WACO, Texas (KWTX) – Students in McLennan Community College’s Nursing and Paramedicine Studies programs participated in a disaster preparedness simulation on Thursday, October 3.
Students were given a natural disaster scenario, in this case a tornado, resulting in mass casualties and were tasked with responding and treating victims.
This went on in 45-minute cycles throughout the day. After each cycle, instructors provided critiques.
We spoke with Tran Ho, a nursing student at MCC who participated in the simulation, who said hands-on experiences like this one are extremely important for anyone wanting to be a first responder or a nurse.
“In an urgent situation everyone may be freaking out and if the nurse freaks out if can become delayed care for the patient,” Ho said. “So, it’s really important to gain experience and be hands on like this.”
