SAN SABA, Texas (KWTX) - The people of San Saba are recovering after severe flooding swept through the town, damaging nearly 75 homes and leaving many more without power.

This flood is the fourth worst in San Saba history, according to Scott Glaze, the director of public works for the city.

“When that water came up and started getting swift it took out 50 to 75 homes,” Glaze said. “It did not float anything away; it just caused severe water damage.”

One location that was hit hard by the rising water was the Sleepy Hallow RV Park. Resident Mitzi Long was in her RV just moments before it was swept away by the flood. Long said in all her years living in San Saba, she has never experienced flooding like this.

“I’ve been here for nearly 46 years, I’ve never seen anything like it,” Long said. “If we would have waited any longer, we would have lost everything.”

Glaze praised the community for supporting one another during this time of need. He said he has received calls all day from those looking to help their neighbors who have been displaced.

“We have had an overwhelming support from our community,” Glaze. “This community is close knit, so when something like this happens, people come.”

The San Saba Civic Center will be open for those needing a place to stay.
