Waco police warn of phone scam targeting residents for donations

WACO, Texas — The Waco Police Department is warning residents about a phone scam involving people posing as police representatives asking for donations.
The department said it has received reports of callers claiming to represent Waco police and asking for donations related to police merchandise.
“Please note that no one from our department would be selling anything for purchase,” the department said in a statement.
Police are advising residents not to provide personal information over the phone or online to unknown sources. The department said these criminals prey on urgency and fear.
Anyone who receives a suspicious call asking for money should contact their local police department’s non-emergency number to report the crime. The Waco Police Department’s non-emergency number is 254-750-7500.
