Fire breaks out at Temple assisted living facility, no injuries reported
TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) — Firefighters responded to a blaze at a local assisted living facility Saturday afternoon, according to Temple city officials.
Temple Fire and Rescue crews were called to Garden Estates of Temple at 5320 Loop 205 at 4:36 p.m., officials said. Arriving firefighters saw thick smoke and fire coming through a second-floor window at the building’s rear.

Before fire crews could begin their attack, a person from nearby Spare Time Texas and a Temple police officer grabbed portable extinguishers to help contain the flames, city officials said. Fire crews then used water lines to finish putting out the blaze while other teams went inside to help residents get out safely.
The exact number of people evacuated wasn’t immediately known, officials said. No one was hurt in the incident.
While crews worked to eliminate remaining hot spots and ventilate the building, they discovered the flames had been concentrated in a maintenance storage area rather than a resident’s living space, city officials said. Fire officials declared the situation under control and completely out in just a few minutes.
The fire is believed to have been caused by a malfunction of the HVAC unit in the room, but the investigation is ongoing, Temple Fire and Rescue said.
The response included nine fire vehicles and 22 Temple Fire and Rescue personnel, officials said. Temple police and emergency medical services also assisted at the scene.
