COPPERAS COVE, Texas (KWTX) — Three Copperas Cove police officers received recognition from the fire department for their assistance during a recent vehicle crash that required unconventional rescue methods.

Firefighter Ingram with the Copperas Cove Fire Department sent an email to police praising the officers’ response when a driver became trapped in a vehicle and standard removal techniques could not be used.

Fire crews had to use an unconventional method to safely remove the driver from the vehicle, Ingram said. The crash presented unexpected challenges that required personnel to adapt quickly.

Officers immediately helped maintain safety inside the vehicle, kept the patient calm and assisted with retrieving equipment from fire and EMS vehicles as conditions changed, according to Ingram’s message.

“There were many moving parts that had to come together in a very short amount of time, and the teamwork between police and fire made a real difference in how smoothly and safely the situation was handled,” Ingram said.

Ingram said the call might seem routine but wanted to ensure the officers’ efforts were recognized.

The officers involved were Sgt. Orr, Officer Evans and Officer Garretson.
