‘It’s phenomenal’: La Vega ISD unveils newly-renovated Willie Williams Stadium
The expansion project at Willie Williams Stadium was part of the district’s $93 million bond approved by voters in May 2024.
BELLMEAD, Texas (KWTX) - The La Vega Independent School District held a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house to show off its new expansion at Willie Williams Stadium, part of the school’s $93 million bond approved by voters in May 2024.
The renovated and expanded field house and locker rooms created more space for student athletes to work out with new equipment and additional equipment stations.
“We needed more space because our programs are improving, our numbers are going up,” said La Vega ISD Director of Athletics Willie Williams, for whom the stadium is named.
“Our soccer kids had no place. We got a locker room for them and our baseball kids. It gives our kids more space to work out at one time.”
Williams was a beloved coach at La Vega ISD and recently came out of retirement to lead the district’s athletics department.
Community leaders, school district employees and members of the community were on hand for the ribbon cutting and tour of the renovated and expanded field house.
“Our community is excited. Our athletes are excited. It’s phenomenal for our community and our school district,” said La Vega ISD Superintendent Dr. Sharon Shields.
