TSTC Waco hosts electrical showcase for area high school students
Event aims to introduce students to electrical career pathways

WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Texas State Technical College’s Waco campus hosted an Electrical Showcase on Wednesday, September 8, drawing about 100 area high school students and counselors to explore electrical career opportunities.
The event began with a welcome and presentation at the John B. Connally Visitor Center. Attendees were then divided into groups to tour four specialized programs: Electrical Construction, Electrical Power and Controls, Electrical Lineworker and Management, and Instrumentation.
“We have students coming into the programs they are hitting six figures in a short period of time,” said Heath Martin, Associate Provost TSTC Waco. “What we are doing is bringing in students from schools across the state, giving them information on what students can be doing out in the field, from generation of power plants to the transmission, to control systems at different plants that push power out to your house to appliances and plugs, everything from start to finish.”
The showcase concluded with lunch and a Career Services presentation at the Col. James T. Connally Aerospace Center, providing students with information about career pathways in the electrical field.
Kaleb Saucedo a senior at China Spring High School got his second look today at TSTC Waco as he will be enrolling in the Electrical Lineworker Program looking forward to beginning his college journey said “I like to think of it as EMS, our emergency service, when you have no electrical, what do you do? So, I want to know I can support my family if something goes wrong. When I go, I want to learn how to get power to my family.”
The event represents TSTC’s ongoing efforts to connect with local high schools and introduce students to technical career opportunities available in the electrical industry.
