WACO, Texas (KWTX) - — Mentoring Alliance Greater Waco hosted its annual Celebrate the One fundraising luncheon on Wednesday at the Mark and Paula Hurd Welcome Center.

Event organizers hope to raise $250,000 to support programs serving more than 1,200 kids across Waco through After School, Summer Camps, and Mentor Connect.

Adam Christing served as master of ceremonies. Kevin East, president and CEO of Mentoring Alliance, delivered the keynote address. Additional speakers included Dr. Chris Allen, Amie Reynolds, and Delisa Gross, who shared stories highlighting the organization’s impact on local children and families.

We have after school programs, summer camps and one on one mentoring camps called Mentor Connect, so when we are raising money for our programs, we subsidize the cost of these activities,” said Amie Reynolds, Greater Waco Executive Director/COO.   “After school programs are 37 weeks out of the year with paid staff and organizers organized programming that runs from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m.  every day with over 800 kids in Waco, then our summer camps are all day, all week all summer long.”

Funds raised will help provide need-based scholarships for children from low-income families, allowing them to participate in mentoring programs that promote academic readiness, emotional resilience, and vibrant faith.

“We will be unveiling the measurable academic improvements in our students this year to several hundred guests, inspiring people toward the mission God has given us as an organization and inviting people in the community to partner with us financially to help us continue serving kids and families from low-income backgrounds,” East said.

Mentoring Alliance exists to mobilize godly people into the lives of kids and families to provide tangible help and eternal hope. Through intentional one-on-one mentoring, Mentoring Alliance helps to meet kids’ needs, as well as their families. The three programs are designed to help each child achieve academic readiness, vibrant faith, and emotional resilience.
