WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Four conservative Baylor University organizations met at the Baylor Marina on Tuesday, October 21st for a social event hosted by Baylor’s Turning Point USA organization.

Around 50 people gathered at the marina for conversation and kayaking. The event brought together members from Baylor Turning Point USA, Bears for Life, BU College Republicans and BU Network of Enlightened Women.

Peter Fernandez, the president of Baylor’s Turning Point USA, said that since the national organization’s president Charlie Kirk was shot and killed, having conversations with your community is more important than ever.

“I think it is important for people talk about politics,” said Peter Fernandez, President of Baylor Turning Point USA. “I want people to come and get together and chat because politics can’t be everything but one of the reasons we strive to have political conversations so much, because of things that like what happened to Charlie Kirk are a result of when we stop having conversations.”

The mixer provided an opportunity for conservative students to network and discuss political topics in a social setting.

“Bears for Life is a pro-life organization on campus and we are happy to be here to enjoy fellowship with like around like-minded individuals,” Abigail Fair, President of Bears for Life.

“It is important to encourage each other in what our group fights for the lives of the unborn, it is something important that we want to do and it is helpful to be around people that want to support us in that. It is nice to get together with people that agree what we believe and go out into the world and better articulate our ideas and engage in different opinions as well on campus.”
