WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Midway High School senior Sakina Qureshi has created a one-of-a-kind ornament to represent Texas House District 56 on the 2025 Texas Capitol Christmas Tree.

Sakina Qureshi’s ornament is a 3D winter scene, showcasing a hand-painted forest and cabin nestled beside a shimmering river inside a glass globe. The design includes a miniature log cabin, snowman, and hand-painted pine trees, all framed with red, blue, and silver embellishments. On the back, the ornament reads “Merry Christmas Midway” in white script.

Each ornament displayed on the Capitol tree is handcrafted by an artist chosen from their respective district. Only one design per district is featured statewide.

“It was very fun to make, and I was really impressed with how it turned out,” Sakina Qureshi said. “I’m grateful to have been chosen for this opportunity.”

Her art teacher, Mrs. Abercrombie, selected her for the honor because of Qureshi’s creativity, precision, and dedication to her craft.

“Sakina produces high-quality work every time and can always be counted on to follow through,” Kim Abercrombie Midway High School Art Teacher said.

Qureshi will be recognized at the December Midway ISD Board of Trustees meeting for representing the district and community through her artistry.
