Waco Police Department hosts holiday celebration for nursing home seniors
Annual PD Polar Express brings Christmas cheer to Greenview Manor residents
WACO, Texas (KWTX) - The Waco Police Department hosted its annual Police Department Polar Express event for eight seniors from Greenview Manor Nursing & Rehab on Tuesday afternoon.
The Waco Police Department partnered with the McLennan Community College Police Department along with help from the Waco Fire Department to transform the Waco Police Department headquarters into a North Pole experience for the selected low-income seniors.

“Last year was our first year and so from those residents it was just pure joy, not only from the seniors themselves but for the volunteers who helped,” said Janae Draper, Waco Police Department Officer. “We got nothing but postive feedback when they got back and this year everyone was so excited for the Polar Express to spread the love.”
The event recognizes that the holidays can be challenging for those without family or festive cheer, according to the police department.
Guests received a holiday meal, gifts, games and prizes during the celebration. Santa also made a special visit to the seniors. They were brought to the police station in a specially decorated Waco Transit bus with an escort from the Polar Express Train and a Christmas themed Waco Fire Department fire truck,
The PD Polar Express aims to help seniors rediscover the joy of Christmas while spending time with local first responders.
