ITASCA, Texas – Itasca police are investigating a fight between two Itasca High School students that sent one teenager to the hospital and the other to juvenile detention.

The fight occurred between two 15-year-olds after school on Thursday at Wilkirson and King streets in Itasca, Itasca police Sgt. G. McClaran said Tuesday.

The incident did not occur on school property and did not involve weapons, Itasca Police Chief Richard Eakin said. The student who was hospitalized has since been released, Eakin said.

McClaran declined to discuss the nature of the student’s injuries, saying the incident involved minors and that the department’s investigation continues.

“It is still an ongoing investigation and we don’t want to release any information that can jeopardize the investigation,” said McClaran.

Itasca school Superintendent Tonya Harris said the parents of both students involved in the altercation have withdrawn their sons from school and that neither currently is enrolled at Itasca High School.

Harris sent an email to “Itasca ISD Families and Community Members” about the incident and said she wants to dispel social media posts that said the fight occurred on Itasca ISD property.

“Itasca ISD is aware of the incident, and we can confirm that it did involve two of our students,” Harris wrote in the email. “We are actively cooperating and working with local law enforcement as they conduct their investigation. We want to emphasize that this appears to be an isolated incident solely involving these two students. As this is an ongoing investigation that involves two minors, we must respect the confidential nature of the legal process.”
