Waco Motorsports owner charged with theft after man’s pickup was towed amid payment dispute: affidavit

WACO, Texas (KWTX) - A Waco businessman remains free on bond after his arrest on felony theft charges related to a dispute over auto repairs.
Brian Schroeder, identified in arrest documents as co-owner of Waco Motorsports, 4901 Franklin Ave., was charged with theft of more than $2,500 but less than $30,000 for “acquiring or exercising control over” a 2005 Nissan Frontier pickup valued at $5,171.

According to an arrest affidavit, a Waco man took the truck to Quality Care Auto Shop, 2012 W. Waco Drive, for repairs on Oct. 4, 2024.
On June 26, the truck was taken to Waco Motorsports after Quality Auto Care closed. The affidavit states the mechanic who worked on the pickup at Quality Care also worked at Waco Motorsports.
After Quality Care’s closure, the same mechanic finished repairing the truck at Waco Motorsports.
The truck was then released to the man by the mechanic in July, the affidavit alleges. That is when the victim reported to police that he realized his truck had been taken to Waco Motorsports for repairs.
“After (the mechanic) was fired, Waco Motorsports never received the money that was paid to (the mechanic) from (the victim) when the Nissan Frontier” was repaired, the affidavit alleges.
“Because Brian never received money from (the victim) directly, Brian then went and had the Nissan Frontier towed from (the victim’s) residence (on Gurley Lane) on Sept. 19, 2025. Brian then refused to return the vehicle to (the victim.) (The victim) wished to pursue criminal charges against Brian for stealing his Nissan Frontier,” the affidavit states.
