WACO, Texas (KWTX) - A West man remined jailed Wednesday after sheriff’s deputies allege he hit a man in the head with a board, bit his ear and threatened him with a knife during an altercation in July.

Daniel Esquivel, 46, was charged Tuesday with aggravated assault, a second-degree felony, and jailed under $7,500 bond.

Sheriff’s deputies wrote in arrest documents that they were called to a residence on Melondale Drive in Elm Mott on July 30, where a man told them Esquivel hit him in the head with an old board. Esquivel then struck the man while he was on the ground and bit his ear, according to an arrest affidavit.

The man reported he had a knife in a sheath on his belt that fell out during the altercation and told deputies Esquivel grabbed the knife and “brandished it at him.”

The man said he backed away from Esquivel onto another part of the property and said Esquivel did not follow him.

Deputies documented the man’s injuries and retrieved a board with blood on it at the scene, the affidavit alleges.
