Co-founder of Pack of Hope nonprofit passes at 78
WACO, Texas (KWTX) - The Waco community is mourning the loss of a woman who spent her whole career supporting less fortunate students and making sure they were well-fed.
Nonprofit co-founder of Pack of Hope, Jane Bounds, passed away Saturday.
Jane Bounds was born and raised in Waco and helped start Pack of Hope, which gives school districts bags of nutritious food for students who may not get consistent meals.
She was an advocate for education and children in Waco all the way up until she passed Saturday.
She was 78.
Fellow co-founder Cliff Reece says the idea for the charity started when they were getting coffee in 2011, both wanting to see changes benefitting local students.
“She was deeply involved in student education, and she saw the link between education and hunger,” Reece said.
From being a dedicated member of the PTA in Waco to starting the nonprofit, Longtime friend Mary Duty says Bounds always wanted to help fill the need that children in the local schools had every day.
“It was a passion of hers to make sure kids got fed, and she knew that kids needed to be fed so they would be able to learn in school,” Duty said.
Services for Bounds were held earlier today.
