WACO, Texas (KWTX) - On November 2, 1926, a funeral was held in Dallas for Texas A&M cadet Charles Milo Sessums, who died from injuries sustained during the infamous “Battle of the Brazos” football game between Baylor and Texas A&M on October 30, 1926.

The intense rivalry between Baylor and A&M boiled over during halftime at Waco’s Cotton Palace when Baylor’s mockery of the Aggie cadets sparked a fight.

Sessums was hit in the head with a chair and died the next day.

Despite an investigation, the assailant was never found.

In the wake of this tragedy, the schools didn’t compete against each other for five years.

This somber event remains a significant, though often forgotten, part of both universities’ history.
