11-year-old reconnects with Copperas Cove community through Christmas cards
COPPERAS COVE, Texas (KWTX) - One 11-year-old from Copperas Cove is on a mission to spread Christmas cheer to everyone he comes across.
11-year-old Zander Fithian has been writing and sharing Christmas cards for his community since he was 3 years old.
Over 8 years, Zander has written around 5000 Christmas cards, handing them out to anyone he meets.
But sadly, this year he was hesitant to write cards after he had several bad experiences.
Zander and his parents saw many people being rude, with some even declining the cards since there was no money.
“We’ve had a lot of people yelling and screaming at him, taking the cards and throwing them down, we’ve had quite a few people say that if it didn’t have money in it they didn’t want it...he’s 11 years old he doesn’t have the money,” Zander’s mom, Amber, said.
Amber Fithian shared his disappointment on Facebook, but within days his PO box was flooded with mail from people all over Texas and the country.
Now, Zander says he’s back to his old spirits, ready to write more cards for others and read new ones that come to his mailbox.
“It makes me feel happy cause it’s also telling them that they care about something that other people do, so if they can do this, they can do anything,” Zander said.
If you would like to send a card or help Zander out, you can send it to Zander Fithian’s PO box at 1033 Copperas Cove, Texas.
