WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Before they head off for winter break, Connally High School students spent their morning organizing food donations for local families.

The district has been collecting donations for the whole month and today they put the donations in separate boxes to serve 110 families.

Connally ISD says they have been a part of this donation drive for over 20 years.

Sergeant John Christian, the Airforce JROTC Instructor with the school district, says every year it teaches leadership skills and community service to every student who volunteers.

“By the time they are fourth years, they got it down and they are doing the operations and telling them what to do,” Christian said.

After the donations are organized, they are hand delivered to people’s doorsteps after school.

Senior Olivia Whitford says seeing the joy they bring to families they serve never gets old.

“Even though I might have just a small part in this, it means the world to me being able to just give somebody food for the holidays and they are not as worried about what they are going to eat tomorrow morning or what they are going to eat on Christmas day,” Whitford said.
