Axtell, Texas community comes together to mourn Charlie Kirk, pray for his family
AXTELL, Texas (KWTX) - Charlie Kirk’s shocking assassination has brought people out in droves across the country for prayer vigils and worship gatherings.
In Axtell, the local soccer field is usually filled with laughter and joy but on Sept. 11, it took on a more somber note.
People came out to remember not only a leader for conservative youth but a husband, a father and a son.
“I’ve been following him for several years and he has just really made an impact on my life and I know other people’s lives,” says Michelle Saladi, who organized the event.
The news, his supporters say, is still unbelievable.
“I was really sad. The way our society is so divided, it was just good to see somebody coming in willing to address a lot of those topics,” Saladi explains.
But they say if Kirk wanted anything to come of his outreach, it was to bring people closer to God.
“You can’t be a follower of Charlie and not be a follower of Jesus Christ. They go hand in hand and so that’s why we’re doing this,” said Aide Barrientos, a supporter of Kirk’s.
Organizers gave anyone who wanted to speak the chance to talk and then they prayed over Charlie’s family and the country.
