‘A revival’: Worship echoes across downtown Belton, Texas as hundreds remember Charlie Kirk
BELTON, Texas (KWTX) - Hundreds of people filled downtown Belton tonight to honor the life of Charlie Kirk.
It was a gathering of the masses where hundreds carried on a message that was silenced.
“Ultimately our goal tonight is to bring people to Jesus. That’s our goal because we believe that was Charlie’s number one goal,” said Reagan Keith, the president of Bell County Young Republicans.
Keith says it started as a passion project but became a movement overnight with the backing from Vintage and Crossroads Churches. More than 1,000 people expressed interest in showing up.
Some people, like Jowell Rolean, came here from out of town.
“I’m passionate for spreading the gospel and unifying in a single spirit and just being here to enjoy what the Lord is doing. And I know that this is a revival that is rising up,” Rolean says.
For Rolean, worship and prayer is truly why he showed up. He said he didn’t listen much to Charlie Kirk before but seeing the awakening in the wake of his death has inspired him more.
“I’m like, ‘Wow! I want to be like that guy.’ He stood up for not even just his religion but for what he believed. This isn’t a religion, this is about relationship,” he said.
Keith says Kirk inspired him to start this local chapter of Young Republicans. “His legacy has been very strong and he has had a strong impact on my life,” Keith explains.
And in a last minute addition to the event, they were prepared to baptize anyone who felt called to make that step.
“I think this is what he would have wanted. We are partnering with local churches for that reason, we want people to come and be moved by the Holy Spirit. And ultimately, if it leads them to wanting to get baptized, we are ready to help them do that,” Keith says.
